Dear Mason MBA students,
Welcome to BUAD5701 Data Analysis!
This is one of the first courses you will take in the MBA program. Our goals are to build a strong quantitative foundation for the program, cultivate analytical skills, and make you a better decision maker!
Textbook: You are not required to purchase a traditional textbook. Instead, we will use a few excellent web-based resources, including Khan Academy, Discovering Statistics by Field, and Learning Statistics by JASP by Navarro, Foxcroft, and Faulkenberry. Statistical Analysis in JASP also comes in very handy. The open textbooks Introduction to Modern Statistics by Mine Cetinkaya-Rundel and Johanna Hardin, and Introductory Statistics by the openStax at Rice University are excellent references for key concepts.
Software tools: We will be using Microsoft Excel (Windows or Mac) and Google Sheets for basic calculations and visualization, and the free and open-source statistical programs JASP.
Assistance: This course is supported by a Teaching Assistant (TA) who will run review sessions and answer questions. The MSBA program also runs a tutoring pool. Hours, location, and contact information will be available in Blackboard.
